While interaction with a horse, simply grooming or petting, is therapeutic in and of itself, the This is Me! youth development program goes much further with a curriculum that teaches children how to communicate with their horse through body language, energy and pressure developing in them a greater capacity for empathy, social- and self-awareness which, over time, translates into better self-control and success in home, school and community settings.

What is EAL?
The thing that makes equine assisted learning (EAL) with horses different from any other kind of experiential learning, such as a team ropes course, is that you’re interacting with a large, powerful, sentient being. Since the horse is not an inanimate object, you get feedback immediately. In fact, the way horses communicate socially can be very similar to how we communicate in teams or in families.
How does it work?

Student will attend 8 hour workshop (with lunch included).
who is it for?
This program is designed for youth ages 8-18 who live in Owen or surrounding counties. The program is designed to build strong core skills in an interesting and engaging environment as opposed to a “sit & get” classroom.
The program is perfect for young people who would benefit by growing in the areas of building relationships, better communication and improved self-direction as well as life skills such confidence, problem solving, making good choices, asking for help and having a good attitude.
We call our participants “students” as they are all school-age and they are in the program to learn and develop skills.
